Learning outcomes: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences, demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaborative.
Today was our first game against a club named Maracaná. Since we just started out the new season, past seniors have left, and new freshmen have joined our team. Because of this, we are not yet accustomed to playing as a team, therefore we weren't very proud with our results this game. Although the final score was 1-1, we did not play well as a team. Our defense was very disorganized and there wasn't much communication going on between our players. Therefore, I believe that as a team, we need to be more communicative with each other during games so that we can work stronger together on the field. We can practice doing this by applying this skill during practices, this way, we will get used to calling out each other's names and actually do it during important games. Nonetheless, it was a friendly game that we can all learn from. We will each learn from our mistakes and do better next time. I, for example, feel that I did not run down to help the defense enough, which is my job as mid-right. This is something I will focus on for next time. I am sure with more practice our team will improve immensely.
Roosevelt vs. Cantera
Learning Outcomes: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions, demonstrate that challenges undertaken developing new skills in the process.
Today was our last game in the "Copa Roosevelt". At the beginning of the game, we were losing by a lot. This really affected my self-esteem and I felt, as one of the oldest on the team, that I let down my team mates because not only did my performance get worse, but I was not supporting my team mates by offering them moral support or any guidance, which I felt terribly about after. Here I did not act in the best way possible, which I feel affected the ethics of my choices negatively. Nonetheless, during half-time, I pulled myself together and told myself that I need to set an example for my team mates and keep my head high no matter what the outcome may be. I took this challenging game as an opportunity to show my team mates, especially the younger ones, that no matter what the score is, what truly matters is having fun and more importantly, learning from our mistakes to improve for next time.
Roosevelt vs. Roosevelt Boys
Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience, demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaborative.
Today we played against the boys team, as a challenge, in order to improve our technical skills. In order to do so, we had to plan our strategies beforehand which took organization, and collaboration among all our team players. First we got into a circle and talked about how our strategies and positions would differ, now that we are playing against a much stronger team, and therefore our focus should be more on defense rather than offense. In doing so, we had to listen to each other carefully and allow each player to speak their mind and give their ideas. Through this process, we were able to strengthen our defense during the game and even though the boys won us by 3-1, we were able to improve as a team.
